(1) A melléknév és a határozószó alakja/jelentése ugyanolyan.

(2) Bizonyos szavakból -ly határozó is képezhető, de változatlan formában is lehetnek határozók; a két határozó jelentése általában eltér:

(3) Néhány melléknévből -ly-végű határozó képezhető, s változatlan formában maga is határozó lehet; a két határozó jelentése lényegesen nem tér el:

(4) Néhány -ly-re végződő szó melléknév, nem határozó; határozót csak körülírással képezhetünk belőle; maga a -ly melléknevek egy része főnévből származik.
